Chelsea Plan to Sign Winger After Sancho Exit This Summer

Chelsea have already made major moves in the summer transfer window but remain active, with manager Enzo Maresca confirming the club is seeking a new winger following Jadon Sancho’s departure.

The Blues are determined to build on their strong finish to the 2024/25 campaign, which saw them lift the Europa Conference League and qualify for the Champions League. With that momentum, Chelsea have already secured deals for Estevao and Kendry Paez, and splashed £30 million on striker Liam Delap from Ipswich.

In midfield and defence, the arrivals of Dario Essugo from Sporting and Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg have added depth, while an expected move for AC Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan collapsed after Chelsea refused to meet the £20 million asking price.

Maresca has outlined the need to bring in a winger, noting the limited options currently available in the squad — Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, and Ty George. Ongoing talks with Borussia Dortmund over England U21 star Jamie Gittens reflect this priority, though two bids have already been turned down.

On the goalkeeper front, Maresca was clear that Robert Sanchez remains his No.1, with Filip Jorgensen the current backup and Mike Penders being assessed in training.

Delap, who Maresca previously coached at Manchester City, is pushing for his first start. While the manager didn’t confirm whether he’d start against LAFC in the Club World Cup opener, he praised the striker’s work ethic and attitude since joining. Maresca described their reunion as a “win-win,” citing their previous success together, including an Under-23 title where Delap scored over 20 goals.

As the Club World Cup kicks off, Chelsea’s focus is clear — strengthen the squad further and continue their upward trajectory under Maresca’s leadership.
