Chelsea have entered the race to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, competing directly with Arsenal and Juventus for the highly sought-after forward. Gyokeres has enjoyed a standout season in Portugal, netting 54 goals in 52 appearances and helping Sporting secure the league and cup double.
Arsenal have already taken steps in the pursuit, reportedly meeting with Gyokeres’ agent in Lisbon and proposing a €70 million (£58.7m) deal. The Gunners are said to be offering the Swedish international a five-year contract worth £110,000 per week before bonuses.
Despite the reported interest, Sporting’s vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha insists the club is not under pressure to sell the 26-year-old and has yet to receive any formal offers. With three years remaining on Gyokeres’ contract, Sporting’s priority remains retaining their top talent as they aim to defend their domestic titles and maintain competitiveness across all competitions.
“We want to keep the best players and talent,” Zenha stated, emphasizing Sporting’s ability to hold onto players during their championship runs without needing to sell.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also exploring other striking options, holding talks over a possible transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. The 22-year-old forward scored 22 goals in 48 Bundesliga appearances this season and has attracted interest from Liverpool as well.
Additionally, Enzo Maresca’s side are in the market for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who is available for £30 million thanks to a relegation release clause. Chelsea face competition from Manchester United for Delap’s signature as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.
