Contrary to various reports, Evan Ferguson will not return to Brighton this January as he will stay at Roma until the end of the season, according to Roma’s director Ricky Massara.

Softfootball understands that the 21-year-old joined Roma on a season long loan with a reported €40m option to buy but following a spell on the sidelines and low goals return. It was suggested that the number 11 would be sent back to his parent club this January.

Speaking on Ferguson’s situation at the club, Massara revealed that the player has been useful for the team so far during an interview shared by football expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle. He said:

He’s (Ferguson) helping us. He’s developing and improving a lot, we are happy. We hope to keep him until June. We will see.

Massara in a recent interview claimed the Roma’s move for Joshua Zirkzee has been blocked by Manchester United and that might be the main reason the Giallorossi are sticking with Ferguson until the end of the season.

Ferguson made his debut against Bologna, playing 74 minutes and has so far scored just two goals for the Roma in the Serie A with an assist which came in the match against Pisa.

Roma are third on the Serie A table with 36 points after 19 matches with just three points adrift league leaders AC Milan.
