Barcelona has finally registered Roony Bardghji and he will wear the mercurial number 19 jersey formerly worn by the legendary Lionel Messi, Softfootball reports.
The 20-year-old was absolutely unplayable during the 2026 Supercopa de España semi-final when Barcelona destroyed Athletic Bilbao 5-0 with the Sweden international scoring a spectacular goal to remind Hansi Flick why he brought he to the club and Lamine Yamal sitting on the bench applauded with a smile of approval.
Barcelona via their official X handle made the announce with a picture of Roony Bardghji and a simple caption. They posted:
Roony Bardghji, Barça’s new number 19, is officially registered. The Swedish forward, one of the standout performers in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club, has now been registered with the first team. Until now, the winger was officially listed with Barça Atlètic and wore the number 28. From this Sunday’s Super Cup final onwards, he will don the number 19 as a fully fledged first-team squad number.
Roony Bardghji, who joined Barcelona on a 4-year deal from Copenhagen in 2025 was born in Kuwait to an Assyrian family from Aleppo, Syria. He is of Armenian descent through his paternal grandfather. His family moved to Kallinge, Sweden, when he was 6 years old for better opportunities.
After choosing to represent Sweden, Bardghji made his international debut for the Sweden U17 team on 7 August 2021. He also played for the Sweden U21 team, with his debut on 2 June 2022.
In October 2025, Bardghji was called up to the Sweden national football team for the first time. On 10 October 2025, Bardghji made his first appearance for the national team in the 85th minute of a 2–0 loss against Switzerland in the 2026 UEFA World cup qualifiers.
