Liverpool manager Arne Slot has addressed the growing noise surrounding Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian winger was left on the bench once again. Salah has now been benched for three straight games, including tonight’s upcoming away clash against Leeds United, a decision that has sparked major debate among fans and pundits.

Slot has maintained throughout the week that Salah remains a key figure in his plans, even previously describing him as an absolutely exceptional player but the coach insists his job is to choose what the team needs most on matchday.

According to top journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, speaking to reporters before the game, Slot admitted the call was difficult. Romano posted:

Arne Slot on Mo Salah benched: It’s never an easy decision because we all know what a great player he is. But it is also up to me to pick the team that I think we need today. That’s why I made the decision.

Despite the conversations surrounding his role, Salah continues to receive strong backing from inside the dressing room. Softfootball understands that Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk recently backed Salah amid the selection controversy, insisting the forward remains one of the most important leaders at the club.

As the tension around his bench role grows, all eyes will be on how Salah responds and whether Arne Slot’s tactical choices will pay off in a crucial fixture at Elland Road tonight.
