Real Madrid have officially ended their chase of Ibrahima Konaté and informed Liverpool of their decision, Softfootball understand.

The France international was involved in midweek when Liverpool lost 4-1 to Dutch side PSV in the UEFA Champions League Match-Day 5. The Reds dropped to 13th on the table after that defeat as they continued their poor run of form.

According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, the Spanish league leaders are no longer interested in the signing of Konaté. He wrote:

Real Madrid have informed Liverpool that they won’t proceed with Ibrahima Konaté deal for 2026. After having Konaté on shortlist for long time, deal off — reports @TheAthleticFC. Konaté still discussing new deal at Liverpool. Proposal on the table, no final decision yet.

Liverpool value Konaté at £43.5m despite having less than a year on his current contract. The Red are desperate to tie down the defender on a new deal amid transfer interest from Real Madrid but the player is yet to make a decision on his future.

After helping his country qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the North American countries of the United States, Mexico and Canada, the big defender is focused on helping Liverpool retain their premier league title but at the moment that seems almost impossible after nine defeats out of 12 matches in all competitions.

Konaté is one of the key players for Arne Slot at Liverpool and they will hope to return to winning ways when they travel to London to face West Ham United in the Premier League Match-Day 13.
