Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that the club is determined to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract, admitting he’s not surprised by the growing interest from top European clubs.

Upamecano’s current deal runs until June 2026, but negotiations are proving tricky, with reports suggesting his camp is seeking a salary close to what Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich currently earn, However, this is not the first time the director is speaking on the matter. Softfootball earlier reported that in a previous interview he joked that the language barrier was the only thing holding down the negotiation.

Fabrizio Posted:

Bayern director Max Eberl: I’m not surprised that many clubs are interested in Dayot Upamecano… and we are also interested in extending his contract.

It takes time. We’re trying to conduct the talks and convince him of the Bayern project.

Clubs like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be monitoring Upamecano’s situation closely. That, naturally, adds pressure on Bayern to finalize a new deal before his contract enters its final year.

Eberl also touched on Harry Kane’s impact since joining the club, describing him as “a true leader” and confirming that future discussions with the English striker would happen “in a relaxed way”.

As for their Champions League clash with Pafos FC, the Bayern chief insisted in a video posted on the club’s official website that the team isn’t taking anything for granted.

He said:

Everyone expects us to win in Cyprus, but away games can be tricky. We just have to show our energy, our dominance, and our qualities. If we do that, we’ll win. It’s as simple as that.

Now the onus is on Vicente Kompany and his boys to deliver what is expected to be a resounding and easy victory.
