AC Milan celebrated the victory on their official X handle, it was a huge win for the club against a very good Bologna side.

Before the international break, AC Milan beat Lecce to recover from the opening defeat to Cremonese. However, for the Bologna match they were without Rafael Leao and Ardon Jashari while new signing Adrien Rabiot was given a starting XI place for his debut and former Chelsea midfielder Christian Pulisic was rested after international duty with the United States. Bologna had Ciro Immobile, Tommaso Pobega, Emil Holm, Nicolò Casale and Ibrahim Sulemana injured.

AC Milan striker, Santiago Gimenez made a clever turn between three defenders and forces a save from Lukasz Skorupski. At the other end, Nicolò Cambiaghi had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside as the first half ended goalless.

The second half was interesting as Koni De Winter, who sealed a €20m move in the summer made his AC Milan debut for the restart, and there was controversy when Gimenez went down under a hand on the shoulder from Charalampos Lykogiannis when a long way off the ball, so the referee waved away penalty appeals.

A bigger problem for the Rossoneri was that Mike Maignan limped off moments later with a suspected calf strain, so Pietro Terracciano made his debut.

In a move involving, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Saelemaekers, the ball was rolled back across for Modric and he finished with the inside of the right boot from just inside the penalty box to give AC Milan the deserved win.
