Germany’s struggles on the international stage continued as Julian Nagelsmann’s men slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Slovakia in Bratislava during their first 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game, Softfootball reports.

Germany suffered a first-ever defeat at the hands of Slovakia, having been adjudged to have conceded first- and second-half goals, respectively, to the hosts, who sent the Germans back to their base.

Newcastle’s new signing Nick Woltamade failed to hit the target in his debut game for the German team. The German striker played throughout the 90 minutes and failed to register a shot on target, experiencing a marred debut game for his home country.

Meanwhile, the eventful loss for the Germans was perfectly captured in their X handle, where they called on their fans for morale support.

This was the statement from the German X handle:

We are not satisfied. You are not satisfied. And we absolutely cannot be. Let’s keep going together! We need you by our side.

David Strelec was the man of the moment for the Slovakia side, registering a goal and an assist to earn the home side their first three points in the qualifiers.

Nineteen-year-old Leo Sauer twice tested Oliver Baumann, while David Hancko added a goal as Ondrej Duda controlled the midfield, and Martin Dúbravka ensured stability between the posts.

Germany will seek to bounce back from the heavy loss it conceded on Thursday as it plays Northern Ireland on Sunday, 7th September.
