Brentford have reportedly made a late move and are set to sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal, with the player on the way for a medical to complete a loan transfer.

The Gunners have made seven new signings already this summer, and an eighth one Piero Hincapie  is set to put pen to paper before the window shuts. The priority for Arsenal now shifts to offloading players who no longer feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans, as the club looks to streamline the squad.

The 25-year-old was on loan at Fulham last season but his campaign was ended by injury in December. His move to Brentford was agreed after the Bees accepted an offer from Newcastle for Yoane Wissa.

Nelson could’ve left the Gunners on a free transfer two years ago, but Mikel Arteta convinced him to sign a new contract and stay at the club. That deal increased his wages to £100,000-a-week.

Now, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, Brentford have agreed a deal to sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal on loan, with the player turning down interest from other Premier League clubs and European sides this summer. The post reads:

“EXCLUSIVE: Brentford agree deal to sign Reiss Nelsson from Arsenal, here we go!

Nelson has chosen to join Brentford on loan, turning down interest from other Premier League clubs as well as European sides.

He is now on his way for his medical.”

Even as at Monday morning, Fulham were still interested in signing Nelson, who is on Crystal Palace’s radar as well on deadline day with various sources suggesting they were still holding talks for the player.

Softfootball understood that Besiktas were also interested, and willing to offer Nelson a pay increase. They had the advantage of the Turkish transfer deadline not closing until September 12th, giving them more time to secure a deal. But at this stage, it seems Besiktas’ only hope of the signing would be if Nelson’s move to Brentford falls through at the last minute.
