Tottenham Hotspur has announced the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on a 5-year deal, subject to international clearance and work permit.
Softfootball understands that the 22-year-old will wear the number seven shirt after Spurs beat Chelsea to his services. The jersey was last worn by club captain Son Heung-min, who left this summer for Major League Soccer (MLS).

Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur’s official club media, the Dutch international expressed his delight at finally joining the club after a long summer wait to resolve his future.
Xavi said:
“I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time.
“It’s a great Club and when I met the Head Coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.
“I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”
For Spurs new Coach, Thomas Frank, signing the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain youngster was brilliant. He said:
“I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in – he is a great addition to the squad.
“He is still young, however he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.
“Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the number 10 position and left-wing. He also has a great eye for his team-mates in terms of unlocking defences, and I know he will come in and be part of a good team that is already working hard together.”
Interestingly, Xavi Simons’ breakthrough season was in 2022/23 during his time with PSV Eindhoven. He scored on his debut as PSV lifted the Dutch Super Cup and the then 19-year-old went on to be named Talent of the Season after winning the Eredivisie’s top goalscorer award with 19 goals. He also helped the club claim the Dutch Cup in April, 2023.

In the summer of 2023, PSG re-sign him and immediately loaned him out to RB Leipzig in German. He took up the challenge and helped them to lift the 2023/24 German Super Cup on debut.
Xavi Simons finished the season with contributing 25 goals across all competitions and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
