Leipzig rejected Newcastle’s bid for Benjamin Šeško but Manchester United are yet to put in a writing offer for the striker, Softfootball can report. The Red Devils and Magpies have been on a tussle for the Slovenia international for the whole summer as both clubs need a number 9 for different reasons.
Newcastle are anticipating a huge bid from Liverpool after they rejected a £120million offer for Alexander Isak and the Reds may come back with a £150million offer which they won’t be able to resist.
For Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim is not comfortable with Ramus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as his two number 9’s as they were one of the lowest scorers last season while the team finished in 15th position on the Premier League log.

According to Florian Plettenberg, writing on his official X handle, he informed that despite Newcastle having their ambitious bid rejected, Manchester United are yet to put in a writing bid for Šeško.
He wrote:
“As of Monday 2pm German time, Manchester United have not yet submitted a written offer to RB Leipzig. #MUFC
“Newcastle’s €80m bid (€75m+€5m) is not enough for Leipzig, as the total package is expected to exceed €80m.
“The club are still waiting for Benjamin Sesko‘s final decision.”
Recently, Manchester United verbally told Leipzig that they are ready to pay for the player as long as the player wants to come to Old Trafford. While Newcastle tasted the water which a strong bid which was rejected.
Perhaps, the Red Devils are waiting for the decision of the player before they proceed to negotiating a deal with Leipzig.
Speculations have it that the player likes the project presented to him by Newcastle but he has a very good relationship with Manchester United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell and may sway his decision towards choosing the Red Devils as his new club for next season.
Interestingly, Amorim wants a striker with Premier league experience, hence, why they initially went for Liam Delap but he signed for Chelsea. The Red Devils were also linked to Aston Villa ‘s Ollie Watkins but Vivell is pushing the club to sign Šeško this summer, having worked with the 22-year-old at Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
Šeško scored 13 goals with five assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig last season but regarded as one of the elite strikers in the modern market.
