Olympique Lyon are closing in on a deal for Liverpool star who has been compared to Manchester United legend, Michael Carrick.
Softfootball understands that the player in question is defensive midfielder, Tyler Morton. The 22-year-old is one of the most talked about youngsters in Europe and plays for the England U-21 squad.
According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, the deal to take the midfielder to France is almost done.
He revealed:
“Olympique Lyon, closing in on Tyler Morton deal with Liverpool for £15m transfer fee.
“Negotiations at final stages.”
Morton is currently behind the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliot and Ryan Gravenberch. He needs game time and the only option to to leave the club.
Morton is a versatile midfielder, strong on-the-ball, good passing range, and has the ability to read the game. Although, he is a defensive midfielder, he can also play in a more advanced role.
Interestingly, he excels at intercepting passes and blocking shots. The talented English lad is comfortable in possession, even in tight spaces, and is developing his ability to drive forward with the ball.
He is not very physical maybe that’s why it has been difficult for him to break into the first team of Liverpool despite his successful loan spell at Hull City last term.
No official confirmation from both clubs but it’s expected that the Morton will just Lyon this summer from Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot and the rest of the Liverpool first team have been busy with pre-season matches. The Reds opened pre-season with an easy win over Preston. Same day they paid tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre who died in a car crash.
Liverpool lost the next game against AC Milan with new manager Maximiliano Allegri calling the shots from the sidelines. It was an emphatic win by the Italians.
