Newcastle Enter Talks for Šeško Amid Striker Search

Newcastle United have opened serious discussions with the representatives of Benjamin Šeško, as they continue their hunt for a new striker this summer.

Softfootball understands that the Magpies have reportedly kept tabs on the Slovenian forward since 2022 and have now stepped up their interest.

According to renowned sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle are in concrete talks with Šeško’s camp, and RB Leipzig the striker’s current club have been made aware of the developments. However, no formal offer has been submitted yet, and no agreement has been reached.

Plettenberg posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account:

“Newcastle and Benjamin Sesko’s camp are in concrete talks, with RB Leipzig informed. However, there is still no verbal agreement. But Newcastle/Sesko working on it. #NUFC have had Sesko on their radar since 2022. Let’s see what happens in the coming days and weeks. So far, Leipzig have not received any offer for Sesko. Leipzig are demanding €80–100 million.”

The shift in focus comes after Liverpool hijacked a potential move for Hugo Ekitiké, who had long been linked with a move to St James’ Park. Šeško, who scored 13 goals in 33 Bundesliga games last season, is seen as a more complete and mature option.

RB Leipzig are holding out for a fee between €80m and €100m but are yet to receive any official bid from Newcastle or any other club, and with Ekitike off the market and Isak pushing to leave the team, Newcastle might find themselves without a striker if they don’t move to get Sesko.

With the new Premier League season drawing closer, Newcastle are expected to intensify negotiations. Šeško, just 21, is seen as a long-term solution at the top of the pitch, combining physicality, pace, and a natural goal-scoring instinct.

What happens in the coming days could be decisive, but for now, Newcastle remain in the conversation, waiting to see if a deal can be struck.
