New reports coming out of Portugal has revealed that Arsenal has agreed a €73.5m transfer fee with Sporting Lisbon for striker Viktor Gyokeres, Softfootball gathered.

The 27-year-old has been a long term target for the Gunners as they look to fix the striking position after ending last season without a recognisable target man which forced Arteta to play Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino in that position.

According to football transfer expert, David Ornstein, his sources in Lisbon have confirmed that the Portuguese club have reached an agreement with the Gunners for Gyokeres. The deal is worth €63.5m guaranteed fee plus €10m add-ons.

Gyokeres’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya waived part of his fee to help facilitate the move. The news would come as great news for Arsenal fans who thought the move won’t go through anymore after reports came out last week that the deal has stalled.

Gyokeres has always insisted that he wants the move to the Emirates and was not listening to any other offers. Despite playing with Reuben Amorim at Sporting and Manchester United needing a striker, the big Swede refused to change his mind but acknowledged that he owes most of his recent success to the Red Devils gaffer.

Once this deal is made official, Gyokeres will become the fourth major signing for Arsenal this summer following the capture of Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Last season, Arsenal main strikers Kai Harvertz and Gabriel Jesus got injury in January and February respectively as they finished the season in second, 10 points behind League winners Liverpool and scored 17 goals fewer.

Arteta has hopefully now fixed that problem with the arrival of Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. The Swede is a goal machine, scoring 15 times in 26 matches for his national team.

Softfootball reported earlier that the deal to take Gyokeres to Arsenal is close. Now, it can be said that the Swede will surely be at the Emirates next season.

In what could be his final campaign for Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions last season as he led the club to the Portuguese league title.
