Newcastle United Sign Anthony Elanga for £55m in Statement Summer Transfer

Newcastle United have completed their first major signing of the summer, securing Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga for a reported fee of £55 million.

The Swedish international began his career at Manchester United before making the switch to Nottingham Forest, where he quickly became a standout performer.

Elanga was instrumental in Forest’s surprise qualification for European football last season, contributing six goals and 11 assists as the club finished seventh in the Premier League.

Softfootball reported that Newcastle United had reached an agreement of £55 million with Nottingham Forest, and we can now confirm that the deal is completed, with Newcastle United making the announcement across all platforms.

At Newcastle, Elanga will aim to claim the right-wing position as his own, with the Magpies previously struggling for depth in that area.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a key target for us, so I’m pleased we’ve secured him early in pre-season.

“He is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy, and ability to create and score goals will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play. Anthony is hungry to develop further with us and to achieve success here, and we’re all looking forward to working with him.”

Elanga also expressed his excitement, saying:

“I’m excited, I’m really happy, but most importantly, I’m ready. I’m ready to put on this black-and-white shirt, fight for this team, and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.

“I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest. They really helped me become the player I am today. But I’m happy to be here now. The club won a trophy last season and is building something unique—something special that I want to be part of.

“I want to buy into the culture and DNA of this club. I can’t wait to get started.”

Softfootball can confirim that Elanga made 82 appearances in all competitions for Forest and played 55 times for Manchester United prior to that. He has also earned 22 caps for the Swedish national team.

His first competitive appearance in Newcastle colours could come in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa.
