Napoli are not working on Garnacho transfer at this stage – Fabrizio Romano

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed recent report linking Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to a public statements or given interviews regarding Alejandro Garnacho’s potential transfer to the Serie A champions.

Softfootball can report that Napoli are in the market for a winger this summer after losing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain in January. They have already strengthened their squad this summer with the signing of former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

Earlier today, claims surfaced that De Laurentiis praised Garnacho’s pace, flair, and potential, suggesting Napoli’s interest was driven by his current situation at Manchester United. The alleged quote included:

“Garnacho’s got pace, flair and potential. But that’s not even why we want him. We want him because he’s at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player. There’s a fault at United that I can’t explain.”

However, Romano has dismissed these reports, confirming that Napoli are not pursuing Garnacho at this stage. The transfer expert made this know on his verified X page today where he wrote:

“Napoli president De Laurentiis has not released any statement or interview about Alejandro Garnacho.
Napoli are also not working on Garnacho deal at this stage”

Garnacho was told in May that United are open to selling him at the right price this summer and he was one of five players to recently inform the club that he wants to leave in this transfer window.

He has not reported back to Carrington for the start of pre-season training, meaning he has been given time to explore his options. His return date, in the event of him not securing a move elsewhere, has been delayed until later this month.

Napoli were interested in the Argentine international back in January and saw a £40million bid rejected. It is understood United value the 21-year-old at north of £50m.

Garnacho has been under the spotlight once too often in the last few months. He described United’s 2024/25 campaign as “s**t” after starting the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on the bench and recently posted a picture of himself on Instagram donning an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name and number on the back.

Softfootball reported earlier that Manchester United  are set to take £58m loss to offload star player as Amorim pushes for exit.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to accept a huge loss to offload winger Jadon Sancho this summer.

It is clear now that both United and Ruben Amorim want to sell Sancho, but they are facing difficulties in convincing clubs to pay a decent amount of money for him.

According to GiveMeSport, Manchester United have ‘refused to rule out the possibility of lowering their demands and selling Sancho for an even more significant loss’ if they don’t find a suitor for him heading into the final weeks of the window.

It has been claimed that United are set to accept a fee ‘as low as £15 million’ to get rid of Sancho if clubs fail to meet their valuation.

That would present a £58 million loss to United, who agreed a £73 million fee to sign him from Borussia Dortmund four years ago.
