In a tweet posted by CANAL+ Foot on X, Paris Saint-Germain superstar Ousmane Dembélé paid a touching tribute to the late Diogo Jota after scoring in PSG’s 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Dembélé came into the game with PSG defending a one-goal lead and struck in extra time to seal the win and guarantee the Parisians a place in the semi-finals.

After scoring the decisive goal, Dembélé recreated Jota’s iconic celebration, the same one Jota made after scoring a dramatic 94th-minute winner in Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Tottenham back in 2023.

Softfootball earlier reported that nine-man PSG bravely held on to beat Bayern, and Dembélé’s gesture became one of the standout moments of the match, reflecting the French winger’s sportsmanship and emotional awareness.

In a similar post, Softfootball revealed that Liverpool delayed their pre-season return in Jota’s honour and pledged to honour the remainder of his contract by supporting his family financially.

Jota was widely regarded as one of the most humble and beloved figures in the sport — a rare footballer with virtually no negative fanbase. His talent and character left a lasting impression on both teammates and opponents.

Dembélé spoke candidly on Friday following confirmation of Jota’s passing:

As you saw yesterday, this has been a difficult moment for the world of football. For everyone, even those outside of football. We also support our [Portuguese teammates], because they knew the player very well. Our sincere condolences go out to the whole family. We hope things will get better.

Having spoken so warmly about Jota, Dembélé backed up his words with a heartfelt celebration, ensuring the late Portuguese star’s legacy was honoured on the biggest stage.

With PSG now one win away from reaching the Club World Cup final, Dembélé knows that continuing to make decisive contributions is not just key to the team’s campaign — but also crucial to his push for the Ballon d’Or.
