Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will take on Puerto Rico today as they look to revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The Group B encounter is scheduled for the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, with kick-off set for 6:00 pm local time (7:00 pm Nigerian time).

Nigeria enter the fixture under pressure after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening match on Saturday.
Head coach Akeem Busari’s side will be determined to respond positively after missing out on a point against Poland. The Europeans took the lead through Wiktoria Skrzypczak’s penalty in the 33rd minute before Natalia Skrok doubled their advantage in the 65th minute.

Substitute Oluebube Umejiaku pulled one back for Nigeria in the 79th minute, but the Flamingos could not find an equaliser despite pushing forward in the closing stages.

Puerto Rico also head into the encounter looking for their first points after losing 6-0 to defending champions Korea DPR in their historic World Cup debut. The Caribbean side conceded five goals in the first half before showing greater defensive organisation after the interval.

Despite Puerto Rico’s heavy opening defeat, Nigeria cannot afford to underestimate their opponents. The Flamingos will need to improve their defensive concentration, make better use of their attacking opportunities and maintain their intensity throughout the contest.

A victory would provide a significant boost to Nigeria’s qualification ambitions ahead of their final Group B fixture against Korea DPR on October 23. With both teams seeking their first points, the encounter presents an important opportunity for the Flamingos to get their campaign back on track.

For Nigeria, the objective is clear, turn the promise shown against Poland into a more complete performance and secure a result that keeps their Round of 16 hopes alive.
