Atletico Madrid host Manchester United at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in a UEFA Champions League league-stage clash between two sides experiencing contrasting fortunes.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico head into the encounter on a four-game winning streak after beating Alaves 2-1. Alejandro Grimaldo opened the scoring before Cristian Romero secured a late winner, boosting the hosts’ confidence ahead of United’s visit.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick’s Manchester United are struggling for consistency. Their recent 1-1 draw against Tottenham extended their winless run to four matches across all competitions. With just six points from six Premier League games, United have recorded their worst league start since 1986.
Despite beating Sabah 4-0 in their Champions League opener, United face a difficult challenge against an Atletico side enjoying strong momentum at home.
Team News
Atletico Madrid have a fully fit squad available, with Julian Alvarez expected to lead the attack alongside Lee Kang-in. Cristian Romero and David Hancko could anchor the defence.
Manchester United have several injury concerns. Matthijs De Ligt remains sidelined, while Noussair Mazraoui, Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko are also dealing with fitness problems. Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans could feature in midfield.
Possible Lineups
Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Pubill, Romero, Hancko, Grimaldo; Simeone, Llorente, Cardoso, Baena; Lee, Alvarez.
Manchester United: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Mainoo, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford; Cunha.
Prediction
Atletico Madrid 3-1 Manchester United.
Atletico’s winning momentum and home advantage make them favourites, while United’s defensive injuries and recent struggles could prove costly.
