Fikayo Tomori has been reintegrated into AC Milan’s first-team squad following the closure of the summer transfer window, bringing an end to a difficult period for the experienced defender.
Softfootball understands that Tomori had been left out of the plans earlier in August and was excluded from Milan’s Serie A squad list after being identified as one of the players who could leave the club. The situation came after the defender fell out of favour and was placed on the exit list alongside several other players considered surplus to requirements.
Fulham emerged as one of the clubs showing interest in Tomori, but negotiations failed to produce an agreement before the transfer window closed. With Milan ultimately unable to sign a suitable replacement, the decision has now been made to bring the England international back into the first-team group.
Tomori had reportedly been keen to remain at Milan despite the uncertainty surrounding his future. The centre-back prefers to stay with the Rossoneri and see out his current contract, which runs until 2027.
His return to group training provides Milan with additional defensive depth as the club enters the demanding part of the season. Tomori’s experience at the highest level could prove particularly useful given the physical demands of Serie A and Milan’s wider ambitions.
The defender has previously established himself as an important figure at the heart of Milan’s defence, combining pace, strength and experience. Although his position in the starting XI remains uncertain, his reintegration gives the club another experienced option to call upon.
With no transfer materialising before the deadline, Tomori now has an opportunity to rebuild his position within the squad and potentially convince the coaching staff that he can still play an important role at San Siro.
