The Italian Football Federation has confirmed talks with Pep Guardiola as it steps up efforts to appoint the Spaniard as the next head coach of the Azzurri.
Italian officials, led by Paolo Maldini and Leonardo, recently met Guardiola in Barcelona to present their long-term vision, with the federation identifying the former Manchester City manager as its leading candidate to oversee Italy’s rebuild.
To strengthen their proposal, the federation is reportedly prepared to offer Guardiola unusual flexibility, including permission to continue living outside Italy and adapt his working schedule to suit the demands of international football.
Softfootball reported earlier in July that Guardiola had emerged as the ideal candidate for the role, with senior figures within the federation convinced that his experience, tactical expertise and winning mentality make him the perfect choice to lead Italy into a new era.
While Guardiola’s salary remains the biggest hurdle to any agreement, the Italian federation believes the investment would be justified if it secures one of football’s most successful managers.
Talks remain ongoing as Italy continues its search for a coach capable of restoring the Azzurri to the top of international football.
