Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister admitted the Reds failed to control Sunday’s dramatic 2-2 Premier League draw against Manchester United at Anfield despite fighting back to lead the contest.
Softfootball gathered that Liverpool recovered from Lisandro Martinez’s opener through goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah before Amad Diallo rescued a point for Manchester United late in the second half.
Introducing his assessment after the match, Mac Allister acknowledged Liverpool were below their usual standards and deserved only a point. The Argentina international said.
I think the team is really disappointed. It’s not what we wanted but at the end it’s a fair result. We couldn’t control the game as we wanted, so we have to take the point and move on.
He added that Liverpool looked rushed throughout the contest and admitted the team failed to manage the game after taking a 2-1 lead.
Mac Allister also praised Liverpool’s mentality for recovering from going behind but insisted the Reds should have protected their advantage better if they wanted all three points.
