Softfootball understands that Aston Villa have reached a verbal agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Brazilian midfielder João Gomes. The deal is worth an initial €40 million, with a further €5 million add-ons, while Wolves have accepted a package valued at around £38 million and have authorised the player to complete his medical.
João Gomes has already left Wolves’ training base to finalise the transfer, with only the remaining formalities standing between the 25-year-old and a move to Villa Park. The agreement indicates the deal is in its final stages.

The signing represents a significant development in Aston Villa’s summer recruitment strategy having earlier shortlisted Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha as one of several options to strengthen the middle of the park.
An official announcement is expected once Gomes successfully completes his medical and signs the necessary paperwork, making him one of Aston Villa’s marquee signings of the summer transfer window.
