Xabi Alonso is eager to assess Nicolas Jackson during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations as the striker returns to Stamford Bridge following the end of his loan spell at Bayern Munich.
Softfootball understands Bayern Munich have decided not to activate the €50 million purchase option in Jackson’s loan agreement, paving the way for the Senegal international’s return to west London.
Despite Bayern manager Vincent Kompany being pleased with Jackson’s performances as a backup striker, the Bundesliga champions ultimately considered the buy clause too expensive and opted against making the move permanent.

Chelsea’s new head coach is now expected to take a closer look at the 25-year-old before making a final decision on his future. If Jackson is willing to accept a squad role, there is growing belief within the club that his return could strengthen the Blues’ attacking depth ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Jackson’s pre-season performances are likely to play a key role in determining whether he remains part of Alonso’s plans or becomes the subject of further transfer interest later in the summer.
