Former Manchester City defender Stuart Pearce has praised Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, describing him as the perfect backup option for Nottingham Forest forward Chris Wood.
Softfootball understands that The former England international believes Awoniyi has proven his value whenever he has been called upon, especially when Wood has been unavailable. Pearce noted that the Nigerian striker’s pace, physicality, and goal-scoring ability give Forest another attacking threat.

Speaking in an interview with Nottingham Post, Pearce said Awoniyi’s performances last season showed he can be trusted to lead the line when needed.
“And Chris Wood is scoring goals, which is fantastic for the club as well. He is having a halcyon period in his career,” Pearce said.
“If he’s not fit, Taiwo Awoniyi did well last season so can step in for him. The bottom line is they’ve got threat on the counterattack with pace, and two goalscorers at the point of the team.”
Awoniyi, who recently returned from injury, is yet to regain the impressive form he showed last season when he scored six goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest. However, his experience and previous contributions continue to make him an important option in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.
