Former England striker Darren Bent has urged Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to avoid pursuing Real Madrid winger Arda Guler, arguing the Turkish international simply wouldn’t fit the way the Gunners currently play.
Softfootball gathered that Bent’s comments came during an appearance on talkSPORT’s Insider Gooners podcast, where he was blunt in his assessment of a potential move.
Asked to rate the fit out of five, Bent didn’t hold back:
Not for me. You want a grade out of five? I will say one.
He continued by explaining his reasoning:
He won’t fit the squad. I think he’s a very good player; I saw him at the Euros; very talented. But will you swap one bench for another?
Bent pointed out that Guler already struggles for game time at the Bernabeu, and questioned whether a move to Arsenal would solve that problem.
At Real Madrid, he’s not getting the opportunities. Coming to Arsenal, there are better options, be it out wide or in the No. 10 role. I can’t see that one happening. Good player, but not for Arsenal, no.
