Ajax have opened talks over a move for Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo as the Eredivisie giants continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Softfootball understands that initial discussions have begun with the player’s representatives, with Marcos Leonardo expected to leave Al Hilal during the current transfer window. The 23-year-old striker has emerged as one of Ajax’s leading attacking targets as the club looks to add more firepower to its frontline.

The move comes alongside Ajax’s continued pursuit of midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, who has attracted widespread attention following his outstanding performances for Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ounahi played a pivotal role in Morocco’s run to the quarter-finals, including a dominant display against co-hosts Canada, where he scored twice in a convincing 3-0 victory that made the Atlas Lions the first nation to secure a place in the last eight of the tournament.

His performances have reinforced Ajax’s long-standing admiration for the midfielder, whose technical quality, vision, and creativity have made him one of the most sought-after players in the market.

With negotiations now underway for Marcos Leonardo and interest in Ounahi remaining strong, Ajax are demonstrating their intent to reshape the squad with young, high-quality talent capable of making an immediate impact both domestically and in European competition.
