Softfootball can confirm Arsenal are preparing to intensify their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, with reports indicating the Gunners are ready to submit a formal offer after an initial verbal proposal worth around £55 million was rejected.

The Brazilian midfielder has emerged as one of Mikel Arteta’s top transfer priorities as Arsenal look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Newcastle, however, remain determined to keep hold of one of their most influential players and have made it clear they have no desire to sanction his departure.

Despite that stance, direct club-to-club negotiations are now expected as Arsenal test Newcastle’s resolve with an official bid.

The race for midfield reinforcements is becoming one of the biggest storylines of the summer transfer window. Alongside Guimarães, Arsenal continue to monitor several alternatives, including Alex Scott, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes.

However, competition is fierce across the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are both understood to be further advanced in their pursuit of Mateus Fernandes, while Manchester City remain in the market for another midfielder following their record-breaking signing of Elliot Anderson.
