Éder Militão faces a serious risk of missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup after complications linked to a reopened scar from a previous injury as reported by Fabrizio Romano through his official X channel.

The latest concern could reportedly require another surgical procedure, creating fresh uncertainty over the defender’s recovery timeline ahead of Brazil’s summer campaign.

Romano posted:

Éder Militão, at serious risk for World Cup after injury setback. His scar from his previous injury has reopened, and Militão could have to undergo surgery again. In that case, he’d be out for the World Cup — reports @miguelitocope.

Late last year, Softfootball reported that Real Madrid confirmed the Brazilian suffered a muscular injury in the adductor magnus of his right leg after feeling discomfort during Brazil national football team’s 1–1 friendly draw with Tunisia national football team, where he was substituted in the 60th minute.

Militão had recently sustained a biceps femoris muscle injury in his left leg during a Real Madrid C.F. match. That setback was already confirmed as season-ending for club duties, although initial expectations suggested he could still recover in time for the World Cup.

Those hopes are now under threat following the latest medical concern. For both club and country, the timing is especially difficult given Militão’s importance in defense

Militão’s recent years have already been disrupted by significant knee problems, making any new recovery process more delicate. Repeated injuries can affect rhythm, confidence, and long-term conditioning, especially for defenders who rely heavily on explosiveness and sharp changes of direction.

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé suffered a left hamstring muscle overload and was substituted late as Real Madrid dropped crucial points in a dramatic 1–1 La Liga draw against Real Betis.

With multiple injury concerns mounting, Real Madrid and Brazil will be anxiously awaiting further updates on one of their key defensive leaders.
