As earlier reported by Softfootball, Chelsea officially sacked head coach Liam Rosenior with immediate effect, ending his spell in charge after just 106 days.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s update via his official X handle, the club confirmed Calum McFarlane as interim head coach until June, handing him responsibility for stabilizing the team during the closing weeks of the 2025/26 season.

Romano revealed:

BREAKING: Calum McFarlane will be Chelsea new head coach until June on interim basis. McFarlane will be working with support from existing Chelsea backroom staff.

Rosenior’s dismissal follows a disastrous run of results that intensified pressure on the club hierarchy. Chelsea had recently held internal meetings to decide Rosenoir’s future after a humiliating 3–0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. at the American Express Stadium.

The poor form came after weeks of declining performances, leaving Chelsea outside the key qualification places and increasing supporter frustration. Rosenior had only been appointed earlier in 2026, but results and confidence failed to improve under his leadership.

McFarlane is no stranger to the role. He previously stepped in as interim manager in January 2026 after the departure of Enzo Maresca. During that short spell, Chelsea drew away to Manchester City and lost to Fulham before Rosenior’s arrival.

His return suggests the board values continuity in the short term, with current backroom staff expected to remain in place while the club assesses longer-term options.

Chelsea’s latest change also reinforces the club’s growing reputation for managerial instability during the 2025/26 campaign. Frequent shifts in direction have made it difficult to build momentum on the pitch.

Attention now turns to whether McFarlane can steady results quickly and restore calm, while Chelsea begin yet another search for a permanent head coach.
