Georgios Donis has reached a full agreement with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to become the new head coach of the Saudi Arabia national football team ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The current Al-Khaleej manager has been chosen to take charge of the “Green Falcons” just 55 days before their opening match. His appointment comes after urgent discussions within the federation to find a quick and reliable replacement.

This decision follows a period of instability after the federation parted ways with Hervé Renard following poor results, including a 4-0 defeat to Egypt national football team and a 2-1 loss to Serbia national football team. Softfootball believes Donis was selected because of his strong knowledge of local players and his ability to quickly improve team morale.
While Saudi Arabia prepares for the World Cup, attention also turns to the Premier League, where Chelsea FC and Manchester United face a crucial clash. Both teams are fighting for a top-four finish, with United currently third and Chelsea in sixth, needing a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
Donis is expected to officially begin his role on May 22 after the Saudi Pro League season ends. The team will then travel to the United States for a training camp, where they are set to face Spain national football team, Uruguay national football team, and Cape Verde national football team in Group H.
