Saudi Arabia Part Ways With Hervé Renard Weeks Before World Cup

2 Min Read

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has officially dismissed head coach Hervé Renard with immediate effect on Friday, April 17, 2026, just weeks before the FIFA World Cup 2026. The decision has shocked many after he guided the team back to the world stage.

The federation made the decision after emergency meetings following Saudi Arabia’s heavy 4-0 friendly defeat to Egypt national football team. Although Renard helped the team qualify for the World Cup during his second spell, officials believed a “change in direction” was needed. As shared by Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle:

While Saudi Arabia deals with this major coaching change, Manchester City are facing their own setback before a key clash with Arsenal. Defender Ruben Dias has been ruled out with an ankle injury, which could affect the title race. Softfootball believes his absence may become a decisive factor as City prepare to face one of the league’s strongest attacks.

In Madrid, another change is unfolding as David Alaba is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer after contract talks failed. Saudi Arabia are now expected to appoint a new coach within 48 hours, while Renard’s second spell ends on a disappointing note before the World Cup.
