Chivu Hits Back at Critics as Inter Focus on Cagliari Clash

Inter Milan’s latest press conference, shared on their official YouTube channel, gave a clear insight into how Cristian Chivu is preparing his team for the upcoming match against Cagliari. The coach spoke about consistency, player development, and the pressure that comes with leading the table at this stage of the season.

Chivu addressed the media to explain the condition of key players and also responded to criticism about the team’s recent performances. Despite outside opinions, his focus remains on the work being done within the squad.

The conversation began with the team’s recent results and how to maintain momentum. Chivu made it clear that performances have been steady even before the positive outcomes. He said:

But we had done the performances even before, obviously then the result is always judged, the moment of the season is also judged, but we have always tried to do the performances, something we will also try tomorrow, aware of the fact that there are six games left until the end of the championship as far as the league is concerned, then we will talk about the cup in the next few days, but we must be proud of what we have done and we must continue to maintain the right spirit, to maintain what is our ambition and try to be the best version of what we have to add another three points to the standings.

His words show a team that is not carried away by results but is focused on maintaining the same level of performance until the end.

A large part of the discussion focused on Chivu’s own development as a coach. With the club directors recently showing their full trust in him, it looks like he will continue his work with the team. Inter Milan is moving toward confirming that Chivu will stay as contract talks continue to progress well. This reflects the growth he has shown and the results he has achieved. Softfootball understands that the relationship between the coach and the board is very strong right now, which gives the players the stability they need to finish the season in first place.

Speaking about his personal growth, Chivu remained honest and reflective:

I improve every day and I learn every day. I am the first one who wakes up every morning, looks in the mirror, and does self criticism of what I should have and could have done, always learning from the mistakes I make every now and then and thank God, from my point of view I hope I haven’t made many, but I have made them and I learn and improve from a professional point of view.

And from a human point of view, especially from a human point of view, of how I should behave, of how I should speak to the boys, of the care I must have for them, taken one by one and then I maybe forget because I also have priorities on one or another based on what the narrative outside is, based on what the same player suffers from a media point of view and I have to go and put on a couple of band aids, give two cuddles and two hugs, because it is not simple.

He also spoke strongly in support of Alessandro Bastoni, confirming the defender will miss the next match to recover fully:

And I would also stop talking about Ale, because he has been talked about for a month now and not in a way to praise him, because there would also be praise for what the man is, what the player is, what he has put in these months, despite the physical and mental difficulties he has had, he made himself available to the national team despite having spent many days on crutches, he put his face out there and he must be given credit because he tried to give his contribution and I said it in previous conferences that we must be proud of what he did. Then rightly a boy who has a physical problem because his ankle is still not 100 percent. And we must also accept the fact that in a month he has trained little and maybe even from a physical point of view he is not at 100 percent.

Tomorrow he will not be called up, he will stay out to recover both from the point of view of that problem he has on his ankle and also to do something that will allow him to raise his athletic condition.

There is a common debate about whether Serie A is losing its ground and competitive edge in Europe compared to other big leagues. Chivu disagreed with the idea that Inter’s success comes from playing in a weak league. He believes his team’s position is a result of their hard work.

It is too easy to change your mind based on what the reality of the standings is. Until a few matchdays ago or until a few months ago when there were few points at stake, everything was competitive, then based on how the score increases or decreases for the standings it becomes attractive or becomes mediocre. This is not our problem.

I would like to be mediocre for my whole life, thus first in the standings in this world of coaching, which gives me the certainty of a job well done, gives me the certainty of having a club behind me that supports me, boys who have the ambition and then it becomes too simple based on the results, based on the scores to classify a championship for the disappointment or the difference in the standings.

There was also a strong human side to his message. He spoke about understanding players beyond football, managing pressure, and supporting them through difficult moments. That balance between performance and care has become a key part of his leadership.

As Inter prepare to face Cagliari, the message is clear. Stay focused, trust the process, and block out outside noise. The mood inside the camp is calm, confident, and fully concentrated on getting the job done.
