The Liverpool manager expressed clear frustration after his side suffered a 1–0 defeat to Galatasaray at RAMS Park in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg, a result that overshadowed what was also his 100th match in charge of Liverpool as reported by a video posted by anfield007 via youtube channel.

Anfield007 posted ;

“Disappointing, because you play football to win a game, and that’s what we didn’t do. For me, it was a different loss than the one we had against Palace, because there was a lot more to like, especially in the first half, which was maybe different to the Palace game.

In the second half, it became harder and harder for us to create, first of all because they were fighting with all they had, so you always have to give credit to them. But it also became difficult because we hardly played in the second half.”

Speaking after the game, the manager described the performance as “disappointing,” admitting that Liverpool struggled to maintain control after the break.

He explained that the first half showed encouraging signs compared to their recent defeat against Crystal Palace, but the team failed to build on that momentum.

According to the Liverpool boss, Galatasaray’s intensity made the game increasingly difficult. He credited the Turkish side for their determination, noting that they were “fighting with everything they had.”

As the match progressed, Liverpool found it harder to create clear chances, particularly during a frustrating second half where the manager admitted his team “hardly played.”

Liverpool’s recent form has been inconsistent. Earlier in the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers stunned the Reds with a 2–1 Premier League victory, but Liverpool responded weeks later by beating Wolves 3–1 in the FA Cup fifth round, securing revenge and progressing in the competition.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray continue to build momentum in Europe. The Turkish giants recently produced a remarkable 5–2 victory over Juventus, further proving their strength against elite opposition.

The defeat also sparked heated reactions online. Softfootball reported that Some Galatasaray supporters celebrated what they called “cup magic,” while sections of the Liverpool fanbase criticized the team’s current form, with some even describing it as “the worst Liverpool in history.”

With the tie still open, attention now turns to the second leg at Anfield, where Liverpool will attempt to overturn the 1–0 deficit and keep their Champions League campaign alive.
