What shirt number Norgaard could wear at Arsenal

Christian Norgaard is on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal, arriving from Brentford for a reported initial fee of £10 million. With contract talks with Thomas Partey collapsing, as Softfootball gathered, the Gunners acted quickly to avoid starting the 2025–26 campaign with a depleted midfield.

Arsenal’s midfield plans are becoming clearer. Martin Zubimendi is expected to step into Partey’s deeper role, while Norgaard will provide depth and competition in the Jorginho mould. However, a key detail still to be revealed is what shirt number the Danish international will wear at his new club.

Historically, Norgaard has worn the number 6 throughout his time at Fiorentina and Brentford. At Arsenal, that number currently belongs to Gabriel Magalhaes. But with Partey’s likely departure, the number 5 could open up for Gabriel to switch, potentially freeing up the 6 for either Zubimendi or Norgaard.

If Zubimendi is granted first pick, Norgaard may have to consider other options. Another possibility is number 15, a shirt Norgaard wears for Denmark. At Arsenal, it’s owned by Jakub Kiwior, but with the Polish defender facing an uncertain future at the Emirates, that number could soon become available.

Fans may also see Norgaard inherit a shirt number worn by past legends. The number 15 has been sported by both Ray Parlour and Cesc Fabregas during their time at Arsenal. If Kiwior departs, Norgaard could follow in their footsteps wearing that same number.

If not, he could look further down the list. The number 16 is now vacant following Rob Holding’s departure. It was previously worn by Aaron Ramsey for many years and remains unclaimed. Jorginho’s exit has also freed up number 20.

Softfootball reported earlier that Martin Zubimendi in London to finalise his transfer to Arsenal, likely the deal will officially be completed within the week.

Arsenal’s focus remains on strengthening key areas, with Zubimendi’s signing believed to be a done deal, the club focus on bolstering their midfield.
