Ruben Amorim celebrated Manchester United’s incredible belief after their dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Manchester City at the Etihad, drawing comparisons to the iconic “Fergie time” era under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Late Goals Seal Derby Glory

Manchester City took an early advantage as Josko Gvardiol found the back of the net in the first half, giving Pep Guardiola’s side a crucial lead. The match seemed destined to end in City’s favor as time ticked away. However, United displayed unwavering determination, spearheaded by the sensational Amad Diallo.

Diallo earned a penalty in the 88th minute after a sharp run into the box, which Bruno Fernandes coolly converted, leveling the score. Just minutes later, Diallo delivered again, this time scoring a brilliant goal to secure all three points for the visitors. The late heroics thrilled United fans and marked one of the season’s most memorable comebacks.

Reflecting on the match, Amorim praised his side’s character and credited their mental toughness. “We managed to score, and we needed that win. It was important for us and our fans. Today, we believed until the very end, and something magical happened,” said Amorim.

He likened the victory to the spirit of Alex Ferguson’s teams, known for their late-game heroics. “We talk about Fergie time, and today the players showed belief, grit, and a winning mentality that is crucial for this club. But it’s just one win; we need to keep building from here.”

Caution Over Diallo’s Rising Star

Amad Diallo was undoubtedly the star of the show, playing a pivotal role in both goals and proving to be a match-winner for United. However, Amorim cautioned against placing too much pressure on the 22-year-old, urging fans to remain grounded about his development.

“He’s very humble and versatile, but we have to protect him,” said Amorim. “In this club, young players can sometimes be put on a pedestal too quickly. We must stay calm and let him grow.”

Captain Bruno Fernandes also heaped praise on Diallo, acknowledging his influence while emphasizing the need for consistency. “Amad is always active, always alive on the pitch. That’s why he won the penalty and scored. He’s been brilliant, but we must keep him grounded because we need him performing at this level regularly. Like this, he is unstoppable.”

Amorim’s ability to manage young talent while guiding the team to critical victories highlights the steady progress Manchester United is making under his leadership. The dramatic derby win could be a turning point in their campaign, reaffirming the club’s resilience and ambition.
