Mohamed Salah’s contract saga continues to dominate headlines as the Egyptian forward revealed he has yet to receive a formal extension offer from Liverpool.
Following his two-goal display in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Southampton, Salah stated his disappointment, admitting, “We are almost in December, and I haven’t received an offer to stay at the club yet, so I am probably more out than in.”
Despite the uncertainty, Salah reaffirmed his commitment to helping Liverpool chase Premier League and Champions League glory this season.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher expressed his disappointment with Salah’s timing, citing the looming clashes against Real Madrid and Manchester City as pivotal moments for the team. “It’s selfish. That’s thinking about themselves and not the football club,” Carragher remarked.
However, Ally McCoist took a different stance, defending Salah’s honesty and criticizing Liverpool for failing to make an offer.
“I find it unbelievable that he hasn’t received a [formal] offer yet,” McCoist said, emphasizing that Salah’s comments reflect transparency rather than self-interest.
Manager Arne Slot dismissed claims that Salah’s contract situation is a distraction, highlighting the forward’s impressive form, with 12 goals in 18 appearances this season.
Slot reassured fans, saying, “He’s fully focused on the game tomorrow [against Real Madrid] and the team’s immediate goals.” Slot also emphasized that such off-pitch matters have not affected the team’s preparation for critical fixtures.
