Manchester United are actively exploring options to bolster their midfield and have set their sights on Atalanta star Ederson.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has been a standout performer in Serie A since making his move from Corinthians to Salernitana two years ago.

His impact was immediate, helping Salernitana secure their top-flight status for the first time in their history.

Despite making just 15 appearances for Salernitana, Ederson’s performances caught the eye of Atalanta, who secured his signature in 2022 for around £19 million after fending off stiff competition.

Since then, he has become a crucial part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s midfield and played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season.

Ederson’s rise has not gone unnoticed, with elite clubs such as Juventus, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain expressing interest in recent months.

However, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Deutschland, Manchester United are seriously considering Ederson as a key midfield target.

Reports suggest United’s decision-makers are convinced of the Brazilian’s potential, having extensively scouted him. While they have yet to open formal talks with Atalanta or Ederson’s representatives, the Red Devils have compiled all the necessary data for a potential deal.

Atalanta, however, are reportedly demanding a fee of €50-60 million (£42-50 million) for their prized midfielder.

Ederson, whose contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2027, has previously expressed curiosity about playing in the Premier League. However, he remains focused on his immediate goals, particularly Brazil’s 2024 Copa America campaign.

Speaking to AS earlier this year, Ederson addressed speculation about his future: “When the market opens, there’s always talk about players, not just me. But I told my agents to handle everything while I focus on the national team.”

Ederson emphasized his happiness at Atalanta, reflecting on their recent success: “I’ve won a great title and feel well-integrated here. Right now, my priority is doing well with Brazil and making a good impression.”

When asked about his preferred league, Ederson admitted to being intrigued by the Premier League. “I’m curious about the Premier League, but I’m still growing as a player. Whether I stay in Italy or move elsewhere, I want to keep improving.”

With United scouting Ederson closely and considering a bid, the coming months could determine whether the talented midfielder makes the leap to the Premier League.
