Jamie Carragher has urged Chelsea to steer clear of signing Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, suggesting that the Blues already have an abundance of wingers in their squad.
The 20-year-old Argentine, one of United’s most promising academy graduates, has attracted interest from Chelsea and Napoli amid rumors of a potential departure this January.
Despite Garnacho’s impressive record of 23 goals in 120 appearances, the young winger has struggled to secure a regular starting spot under new manager Ruben Amorim.
United are reportedly open to selling him, viewing his transfer as an opportunity to generate pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Chelsea, a frontrunner for his signature, may face criticism if they pursue Garnacho. Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Deal or No Deal, Carragher dismissed the idea, stating, “No deal because Chelsea do not need to sign another winger.”
The Blues’ squad is already packed with wide options, including Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Meanwhile, Amorim has left Garnacho’s future open, commenting, “Anything can happen.” The winger recently returned to United’s starting XI, featuring in Premier League wins over Southampton and Fulham.
Amorim praised his development, noting, “He is improving in every part of the game… We need guys who can play one v one.”
United initially set a £70m price tag on Garnacho but have since lowered it to £54.8m (€65m), which has reportedly reignited Napoli’s interest.
Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, confirmed the club’s cautious approach, saying, “We like Garnacho, but we won’t pay outside market value.”
As January’s transfer window progresses, Garnacho’s future remains uncertain, with Chelsea, Napoli, and other clubs evaluating their options. However, Carragher’s advice highlights the need for Chelsea to focus on balancing their squad instead of adding another winger.
