Erling Haaland is set to sign an unprecedented nine-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City, tying the Norwegian star to the club until 2034.
The 24-year-old striker, who joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for €60 million (£51m), has become a phenomenon, scoring an incredible 111 goals in 126 matches.
Initially under contract until June 2027, Haaland had been linked with a future move to Real Madrid. However, The Athletic reports that he’s ready to dedicate the prime of his career to City. The new deal, which removes all exit clauses, is expected to rank among the most lucrative in football.
Haaland has already achieved remarkable success at City, securing two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a Champions League trophy.
His contentment with life in Manchester is believed to have played a key role in his decision to extend. This deal also ensures his tenure will outlast manager Pep Guardiola, whose current contract ends in 2027.
For Manchester City, this extension comes as a welcome boost during a difficult season. The defending champions trail Liverpool by 12 points after a challenging close to 2024, winning only two of their last 13 matches.
Haaland, however, continues to shine with 16 goals in 21 league appearances, second only to Mohamed Salah’s 18.
The January transfer window has been crucial for City’s efforts to revitalize their squad. Deals are confirmed for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov (€50m/£41.8m) and Palmeiras center-back Vitor Reis.
Additionally, the club has agreed to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush and Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso for £54m.
Haaland’s long-term commitment signals Manchester City’s ambition to remain dominant in football for years to come.
