Crystal Palace Make Shock Move for Ben Chilwell

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell could finally be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, with Crystal Palace making a late move to sign him on loan.

The England international has been out of favor under Enzo Maresca, making just one appearance this season.

Despite training with the first team, Chilwell has been sidelined, with Maresca making it clear he has no future at Chelsea.

The defender had been linked to multiple clubs across Europe but failed to secure a transfer due to his £200,000-a-week wages. Now, with just days left in the January window, Palace are exploring a deal.

The Eagles are desperate for defensive reinforcements after losing Chadi Riad to injury and seeing Trevoh Chalobah recalled by Chelsea.

They initially targeted El Hadji Malick Diouf but failed to land him, leaving them in need of cover. Chilwell, who can play both left-back and left-wingback, has now emerged as a viable option.

With Monday’s deadline looming, Palace must decide if they’re willing to take on Chilwell’s hefty wages. Meanwhile, Chelsea face West Ham that night, while Palace travel to Manchester United on Sunday.

Chilwell, who joined Chelsea from Leicester for £45 million in 2020, will be hoping to secure regular game time to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of Euro 2024.
