Chuba Akpom backs two key signings for Arsenal title bid

Chuba Akpom, the Nigerian forward and Arsenal academy graduate, has shared his thoughts on what it would take for the Gunners to finally end their Premier League title drought. Akpom believes that signing just two top attackers could transform Arsenal into champions.

SoftFootball understands that despite strong campaigns in the past two seasons, Arsenal have narrowly missed out on the title, with Manchester City and Liverpool consistently edging them out. Many fans and analysts point to a lack of firepower up front as the main reason the Gunners have fallen short.

While Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has often used a false nine approach, deploying players like Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino, it hasn’t delivered the consistency needed. With pressure mounting, Arsenal are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer, particularly in their hunt for a world-class forward.

Akpom, yet to earn a Super Eagles cap despite his switch from England, has returned to Ajax after a loan spell at Lille. He named Rodrygo and Viktor Gyokeres as the two ideal signings. He included Bukayo Saka in his preferred front three, insisting that this combination would be enough to secure the league title.

Interestingly, Akpom left out fellow Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who has been one of Europe’s most prolific forwards. Osimhen has netted 85 goals and provided 14 assists in 112 appearances across Napoli and Galatasaray.

Though Arsenal have been loosely linked with him, they appear more focused on alternatives like Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

Meanwhile, earlier coverage by SoftFootball stated that Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Osimhen’s situation, but no concrete offers have emerged yet. As is typical in the unpredictable world of football transfers, the situation remains fluid, and Osimhen could still end up at a top European club before the window closes.

Back at Ajax, Akpom’s future also hangs in the balance, with no confirmed interest from other clubs. However, as the market picks up pace, that could change quickly for the 28-year-old attacker who continues to aim for a breakthrough with the Nigerian national team.
