Barcelona transfer update summer 2025 Joan Garcia joins Nico Williams chase continues

Barcelona have begun their summer 2025 transfer business with quiet but strategic moves under Hansi Flick, who is building on last season’s domestic double. The Catalan side lifted both La Liga and the Copa del Rey, and also the Spanish Super Cup to complete a dominant campaign on home soil.

To prepare for the challenges ahead — particularly from a revamped Real Madrid side under new coach Xabi Alonso — Flick has started reinforcing his squad.

Softfootball has reliably learned that the Blaugrana secured their first major acquisition in local goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol, costing £21 million. He is expected to become the club’s new number one between the sticks.

Barcelona’s transfer strategy is far from complete. With attacking depth a top priority, the club continues to pursue Athletic Bilbao’s explosive winger Nico Williams. He remains Flick’s preferred target to add pace and flair out wide, though the competition for his signature is fierce.

Alongside attacking additions, Barcelona are also eyeing potential reinforcements in other areas, including a central defender, a full-back, and a versatile forward who can serve as a backup in a long season. These plans are dependent on departures to free up both finances and squad registration slots.

SoftFootball had earlier indicated that Flick is reportedly ready to offload several fringe players to facilitate new arrivals. This balancing act of incomings and outgoings will be key, especially with UEFA registration rules to consider for next season’s Champions League.

Barcelona fans can expect an evolving squad over the next couple of months, with transfers likely to accelerate after the window reopens on June 16. The club has until the September 1 deadline to finalise all business before the next freeze until January.
