Angel Gomes Focuses on Lille Amid Premier League Transfer Links

Angel Gomes, the England midfielder and former Manchester United academy standout, has acknowledged growing transfer speculation linking him with a Premier League return.

However, the 24-year-old insists he will delay any decision about his future until the summer, prioritizing Lille’s ongoing campaign.

Gomes, who made his first-team debut for United at just 16 in 2017, was once seen as a rising star.

However, limited opportunities under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prompted his free transfer to Lille in 2020. The move has since rejuvenated his career, with Gomes flourishing in a deeper midfield role.

Last season, he registered the joint-most assists in Ligue 1, helping guide Lille back to the Champions League.

His performances also earned him a first senior England cap in September, where he impressed in a 2-0 victory against Finland under interim manager Lee Carsley.

Despite a brief injury setback, Gomes’ stock remains high as his contract with Lille nears its end. Manchester United, West Ham, and Tottenham have reportedly expressed interest in securing his services, while Arsenal has also joined the race as they eye midfield reinforcements.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano, Gomes played down the transfer rumors: “I’m aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but my focus is entirely on Lille. I want to finish the season strongly before considering any decisions about my future.”

Arsenal, whose midfield could lose Thomas Partey and Jorginho at the season’s end, is rumored to see Gomes as a long-term solution. Former Gunners defender Lee Dixon praised Gomes, stating: “Angel Gomes would fit in superbly at Arsenal.

His ability to link up play is exceptional, and he’s shown he can complement players like Declan Rice. He has huge potential, and I’d love to see him at Arsenal next season.”

As the summer transfer window approaches, Gomes’ future remains one of the most intriguing stories to watch, with Premier League giants vying for his signature.
